Indian Prairie School District 204 on Thursday named Kristine Marchiando the new principal for Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora.
Marchiando will replace Jim Schmid, who will leave his post at the end of the school year to serve as the new principal for Metea Valley High School, which is scheduled to open in fall 2009.
Marchiando has nearly 29 years of high school teaching and administrative experience, District 204 said in a news release. She began her career in Illinois in 1979 as a home economics and health teacher for Stillman Valley High School in Stillman Valley.
For the past 18 years, she has served as a high school administrator in Arizona. Marchiando has spent the past six years as principal of Basha High School in Chandler, Ariz. She opened the school, which has 2,700 students.
"Kristine is a very skilled principal who not only has a strong familiarity with large high schools, but she also possesses great wisdom and a successful track record in academic achievement," Indian Prairie Supt. Stephen Daeschner said in the release.
Marchiando completed both her undergraduate and graduate education at Northern Illinois University. Among her professional achievements, she has participated in the Harvard Principal Academy and was named National School Counselors Advocate of the Year, Arizona Vocational Administrator of the Year, and Arizona Counselors Advocate of the Year.
Marchiando begins her new position on July 1.
