www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-cps-brief-10-jun10,0,7893068.story More than 30,000 Chicago Public Schools students are expected to pack Soldier Field from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday to rally for more state education funding and call for more anti-violence programs. Students from throughout the district were issued tickets and will be bused downtown for the "Shout-Out for Schools" rally, one of the district's largest public relations efforts. It is designed to spur state legislators and Gov. Rod Blagojevich to find more money to fill a $99 million budget gap, officials said. The state budget calls for $98 million in new funds to city schools, but officials said the proposed funds are not enough to keep many programs running—including many designed to keep students safe after school hours. School officials and Mayor Richard Daley are set to appear.
