My 1st grader (and mom) is crying that school is closed (for different reasons, I'm sure). I have a feeling my 6th grader will be jumping for joy. She doesn't realize that her test today will be made up.

My 1st grader (and mom) is crying that school is closed (for different reasons, I'm sure). . My HSer was crying because she wanted to get those finals over with! Bad break for her....she already had her Band and PE "finals" , and English was an in-class easy. Today was gonna be science, math, and history--the ones she really really has been working hard on!

I am sorry for the HS kids who have to wait to get finals over with. I'm glad they won't be right away when they go back. I think my HSer caught a lucky break after all. She came down with a bad sore throat last night and took *2* naps yesterday evening. She is sleeping now. My MSer hasn't gotten up yet, or if he has, probably looked at the clock and figured if I didn't wake him there must be no school. My ESer says that a snow day is better than a class party so is happy. She was not up when then phone rang at 5:35 from WV but answered the phone when we got the district call at 5:55. Now everyone but me is sleeping.

My oldest has always been a think-ahead kid. When school is closed for snow days, she always asks...."will they add an extra day of school at the end of the year"? I know this is unusual, but she would rather go to school in the snow, than have the start of her summer vacation delayed! A big factor that motivates this thinking is she has an early June birthday--usually school is out--- and she says "I do not want to be going to school on my birthday " I hope everybody gets some extra pre-holiday rest with the snow day!

my ES daugter came in my room this morning at 8:15 (we went back to sleep after the phone call at 5:40 am) and said "Mommy, it's 8:15!" (The bus comes at 8:30). I played along and said in a somewhat panicked voice"Oh,no! You haven't had breakfast yet and the bus will be here soon. " She told me she had already gotten her stuff ready, including her snack and water bottle and was dressed. She told me she'd get herself some breakfast while I woke her brother up. I finally told her she didn't have school. She was mad! She got over it soon afterwards when she went outside to play in the snow.
We're planning on playing some board games and getting some things caught up before the holidays.
I feel bad for the HS'ers, though. I'm glad they have almost an entire week after returning from break to get back into "studying mode" before they have to take their finals. It would be awful if they had to take them on Monday when they returned. Even taking them on Tuesday like D203 would be a bit much to expect, I think.

It's too bad they couldn't have just made HS start later and have the kids go for finals. I was out at 10:30 and it wasn't bad. They had NV's parking lot cleared by noon.

Totally agree - they bailed too soon - several HSs in Aurora did exactly that (late start, finishing up finals) - IMO, they need to think more than all-or-nothing with the cancellation (i.e. priority should have been getting HS finals completed today)
