When I drove by at 9:20 this morning I saw more action than ever before including the house being half torn down. So many people working, so many machines all over the place. It's incredible to watch.

Sunday 6/8/08. Went by the site...they were out digging and disking and moving dirt. On a Sunday? I guess they have to take advantage of the good weather today as I hear it's going to rain ALL WEEK next week. Argggh...and with the kids out of school, I can hear the "I'm bored" comments starting already. ETA: So much for the good weather. It just started to rain.

I'm worried about the rain too. Can this slow things down?

The rain will slow things down more. Getting the required compaction is near impossible with wet clay. That is why they are disking today. Sun and wind are an excavators best friend when it comes to wet conditions.
As far as Sunday work, it is going to cost someone a fortune, Union operators get double time on Sunday, and I am certain that Read isn't eating it.

Anything going on at the site lately? I can't find the constuction timeline anywhere now but for some reason thought that something was supposed to start on the 13th or something like that. Or are they still waiting for everything to dry out?

I was "in the neighborhood" today and had to drive by the site and noticed they were laying a lot of gravel down. I suppose it could have been concrete, but I didn't see any concrete trucks. Just big dump trucks, so I assumed it was gravel, not concrete. This must be the start of "foundation work"? Lots of activity regarding the trucks and graders.

I went by today. What you saw were trucks of powdered lime being brought in to be spread and disked into the clay to help obtain the required compaction. The lime helps the clay compact better.
As far as the foundation, they won't dig that until the building pad is completed. It appears that is the area they are concentrating on with the lime.
This rainy weather has thrown everything off of schedule as far as mass grading, and not just at MV but everywhere.

Rj, I must say the insight/info on the how/why is fascinating that you post here. Thank you.

Thanks Arch, and you are welcome.
I will add that your information regarding pipelines was very educational as well. I actually learned about the pipelines that I have driven by countless times and never gave a second thought where they went and what they carried.
