I browsed the signatures. I didn't see a single signature from the central or northern parts of the district - gombert, steck, young, brooks, brookdale, longwood, hill, granger. Is this a function of the people who are circulating the petition and their group of email contacts or is this a result of people in the south and at MW being unhappy with MM about the HS/boundary situation?
ETA: I realize that the district's ire isn't strictly due to the reason I cited above, but I would think people in all parts of the district would be equally inflamed about the email and the general handling of the assault case.

I'm not sure where I stand on this issue at the moment, so I will pass on forwarding it. It is not that I condone the action/inaction of MM. I don't like him. My concern is that if he resigns, we get another appointed rep to serve out another 2 years, and the timing of such an appointment makes me even more leery given that we would have a ton of inexperience on the board or a lame duck school board making the selection. My preference is that our board is made up of people that have actually won an election. We can say what we will about MM, but we did elect him.

Yes we did elect. But we also elected Blagojevich. Are you sure on the appointment to fill the remainder?

Yes we did elect. But we also elected Blagojevich. Are you sure on the appointment to fill the remainder? Blago also was charged with a serious crime, so I don't think the situations are all that comparable. As to the appointment, we've consistently appointed for the last 3 resignations. I don't think there are any provisions for a special election. Where I'm really not clear (and would maybe be dependent on the timing of a resignation) is whether the current SB or the newly elected one would get to make a pick.

We all know the answer is the former, and we also know the latter is a lame attempt to throw mud. Please let it go.

We all know the answer is the former, and we also know the latter is a lame attempt to throw mud. Not throwing mud. I am wondering if it had gotten circulation in the north and people hadn't been signing it. MM isn't much of a topic of conversation up here. As I said in later posts, I personally have some concerns about who'd get his spot. ETA: I also never said that the beefs some have with MM over MV were illegitimate, so I fail to see how I was throwing mud.

Is that so? The story was on the front webpage of the Chicago Tribune and has garnered much regional attention (I can't count how many of my co-workers in downtown Chicago have asked me what the hell is wrong with Naperville these days). So it would appear that the outrage over the callous actions of MM is fairly universal and not limited to the "people in the south."
I could just as easily have said the petition signers are showing the proper amount of outrage whereas the northerners are giving MM a pass as a token of appreciation for MV. It would have been equally as inflammatory to your insinuation.

I was at a school event tonight, and he didn't come up in any conversations. There has been plenty of discussion regarding the assault and the subsequent handling by the SB, but I haven't heard too much focused on MM or whether he should resign. Perhaps we should all pretend that there are no differences of opinion or perspective in the SD204 when discussing topics. That wil make you feel better and provide for interesting discussions.

I was also at a school function and again, not the center of attention that people would like to believe. Many people didn't even know what had transpired. Of course, more media blitzes and witch hunts should do the trick. I also can't help but think that this is punishment for not getting the BB land and for having to change boundaries. I, too, noticed that many of the signature are from the south, especially the Fry/Scullen area. Not trying to pit north vs. south - making an observation of fact as a previous poster did. This is one of the areas that was most affected by a change in boundaries and not getting the BB land. I also noticed that there were a lot of duplicate addresses. I understand that petitions are all about getting the max. number of signatures, but if you only counted households, the number, at a quick glance, would probably be cut by at least a 1/3, if not half. Out of 29,000 families with school aged children and roughly 55,000 + residents (?) in this district, that's pretty insignificant. I realize it's early though.

I think because it was on the other board first this a.m. Now its the north turn, its not a north south thing, forward it! No, I'll pass too. He's resigned from his position as president and will recuse himself from discussions about this incident. That's sufficient. It was a stupid mistake, not a crime. He has his consequence. I do want his experience on the board. He was elected because of his experience and there are those at the state and national level that see what he offers to the world of education. Others are now too blinded by their hatred for MM to see that. Even talk of Dr. D being next on the "hit list". If Gregory mishandled this so poorly that these parents needed to escalate the situation, why isn't anyone asking for the resignation of the Gregory principal? I'm not encouraging this, but I wonder why this isn't trickling down? Honestly, this is a becoming a witch hunt. If he does resign, then what's next? Will anyone stop at less than a public hanging at this point?
